According to recent news, the current limits of wind power aren't turbine efficiency or places to put them, it's that the current power grid. Both that it can't handle the surges created by the turbines, and can't efficiently transport the power to where it's needed.
Not that this has anything to do with your road trip, but I felt bad that I hadn't left any comments yet, and didn't have any better ideas.
